Review:
I've only finished reading this book a few weeks ago despite this sitting in my bookshelf for long! I immediately regretted not reading this sooner. I am so in love with this book!
I fell in love for Lucas aka Landon aka Mr. Maxfield right from the start. He is such a gentleman and he really knew how to make a girl swoon. I could never have guessed that he had a horrible past of having is mother raped and killed when he was a child. I immediately understood the guilt he felt when he was not able to save his mom from that psychopath! I feel bad for him, I had the urge to protect him from his past.
He is definitely my Lucas!! <3
As for Jacqueline, she is a likeable character although I'm not very fond of her because of her prying on Lucas's past instead of waiting for him to tell her about it ( I hate people like that the most). I mean, Lucas told her he's not yet ready to discuss his past with her, why can't she wait? It made me dislike her because of that. When Kennedy, her boyfriend for three years, broke up with her, it actually showed a realistic reaction of females who had their heart broken by jerks. She had my sympathy for this though, I felt her misery.
I also liked how the book tackled the issue regarding rape. Male or female, if they were assaulted, they would feel shame, guilt and doubt. Much like how the Jacqueline and Mindi felt. I like how their friends supported them during this crisis, Erin and Katie in particular. That is how true friends should be.
Overall, the book is good. I'll give this book 4 out of 5 since it left me quite unsatisfied and also it is quite predictable. After reading a few chapter, I have already guessed what will happen to Buck, predicted how Lucas fell in love with Jacqueline, and what Kennedy will do after their break up. Also, I wanted to know how Lucas had forgiven himself regarding the incident with his mom. I understand that there will be a book about him but it would have been nice if it was also shown in this book. I was utterly disappointed with that.
